KVFD Exploring Post 31

Members of the Klein Volunteer Fire Department Exploring Post 31 give back to the community. The post has "adopted a mile" in their community in an effort to reduce the amount of trash along the road way. The post started out early on Saturday morning with donuts and juice before starting to pick up the trash along "Old Louetta" between Louetta and Spring Cypress. The weather was perfect and the post collected over 15 bags of trash. Post members meet twice a month on the first and last Monday of each month at 6:00pm. The post is open to local young men and women between the age of 15 and 20 years of age that are interested in the fire service.

Members of the KVFD Exploring Post 31 had a chance to put some of their classroom training to the test. Members attending one of their bi-monthly meeting and were able to participate in some hands-on training. The class began with discussion on the different types of fire extinguishers and types of fires they could be used on. Each member of the post was required to wear their protective gear during the training. Each had a chance to extinguish the fire using a Water Extinguisher, Dry Chemical Extinguisher and a Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher. The class was completed with discussion on the correct extinguisher to each type of fire.

Members of the KVFD Exploring Post 31 completed hands on training covering the proper use and deployment of fire hoses. During the training the group worked as a team to connect the hydrant to fire engine to supply water for the drill. The explorers each took turns advancing a charged 1 ľ” line, getting feel handling the line while flowing water. Teamwork was key to this event as it is vital when working with charged hose lines. The group also got a chance to handle a charged 2 ˝” line and see the difference in the handling of the larger line. Safety is a key part of the exploring activities and teamwork came in handy during this drill. Exploring meetings are held the first and last Monday of each month.

KVFD Exploring Post 31 members are committed to community service and spent Saturday June 19th working on a couple of their projects. The group began the morning by cleaning up the adopted one mile of Stuebner Airline between Spring Cypress and FM 2920. The group signed up for regular trash pick-up along this mile of roadway. They have been providing this type of community service for a year now.

The group then held a food drive at Klein Station 33 to collect non-perishable food to be donated to a local food pantry. The post advisors treated the group to hot dogs, chips, drinks and cookies for their hard work. Local residents and members of the fire department dropped off food during the food drive. The group collected 400 lbs of food and boxed it up for delivery to the food pantry.

The post was established in April 2003 with 4 members and currently has 10 active members. Post members meet twice a month on the first and last Monday of each month. If you are interested in finding out more about the post please send an email with your request.
