Our
Hero
In
these uncertain times we all need heroes, even the Klein Volunteer
Fire Department. We
found one on July 7, 2002. Our
hero is not your typical person; she is 12 years old and one of
the nicest young
ladies you will ever meet.
Lindsey Lynch did
something most adults would not be able to do, save a life.
While swimming at her local pool on a hot and sunny Sunday,
Lindsey noticed one of her friends lying at the
bottom
of the pool. She dove
in to check on her. When she realized her friend was not
responsive, she came back up for air and then went back down to
pull her to the surface. With
some help from others she was able to get her unconscious friend
out of the pool. While
someone else went to call 911, Lindsey very calmly leapt into
action.
Putting to use
what her mother, who is a registered nurse, taught her, she began
rescue breathing and CPR. Within seconds Lindsey had her friend breathing and coughing.
She stuck by her side until Cypress Creek EMS and Klein
Volunteer Fire
Department arrived to continue the care that she had begun.
Her friend was treated at the scene and then transported to
the hospital. Just
before the medic unit left Lindsey stepped into the unit for one
last check on her friend.
Lindsey’s fast
action and ability to remain calm under such pressure saved a
life. In fact, she
did such an outstanding job that her friend was released from the
hospital later that afternoon.
Her friend is doing well and is taking a few days away with
family to rest up.
Seconds
count! We can all
learn a lesson from Lindsey.
CPR is not something just for adults or for people in the
emergency services business.
It is for everyone! Contact
your local Red Cross and take a course.
It really can save a life.
Klein Station 35
honored Lindsey by giving her a “Hero” certificate and
department shirt. The
group then took Lindsey and her family out to eat to celebrate her
accomplishments. It
was one of the best dinners we have ever had.
Thanks
Lindsey---you are our hero!
