Do
not call 911 unless you have an emergency. The emergency services will be extremely busy immediately after a hurricane.
-
Stay
indoors if your structure is sound until you have been advised that it
is safe to venture outside.
-
Watch
out for downed power lines. Just because they have fallen does not mean it is safe to touch.
-
Watch
where you walk. There will be a
tremendous amount of debris on the ground and in trees.
-
Watch
where you drive. The debris can
cause tire damage.
-
Stay
in as much shade as possible when outside. The air will be hot and very humid.
-
Drink
water to keep hydrated, stay away from carbonated drinks and alcohol.
-
Keep
an eye out for snakes. Rising water
will force them to look for higher ground.
-
Watch
out for floating fire ant mounds. Fire ants will ball up and float on top of the water until they reach a place
to nest.
-
Watch
for high water and be careful when walking through it. The swift moving water may have worn holes in the road or yard that you can
not see.
-
Do
not drive or walk through swift moving water.
-
Do
not turn on electrical items until you are sure it is safe to do so.

Poisoning.

Open
any doors and windows so your house can air out.
-
Use
caution when using power tools and chain saws.
-
If
you house is unstable then stay out.

Think
safe, act safe, stay safe.
