Tips
for Preparation (48 hours prior to the storm)
-
Get a Hurricane tracking
map. There are many sources available to obtain one, Internet,
newspaper or your local grocery store.

Keep updated on the storms
position by listening to your local news or weather radio.

Insure that your Hurri-Can
is complete and placed in your room that you will shelter in

refilled.

Fill up your car with gas
and oil.
-
Get cash out of the bank
for emergencies after the storm.

Begin to secure outside
furniture and tools. (These can be like missiles during high
winds)
-
Begin to cover your
windows with your precut plywood from your earlier preparations.
-
Check all battery operated
radios, TV’s and flashlights.

Make sure all of your
rechargeable equipment you plan on using is fully charged and

Before
the Hurricane
Tips
for Preparation (24 hours prior to the storm)
-
Finish moving and securing
outside furniture and tools.
-
Stay off the roads if
possible. They will be congested with evacuees and last minute
shoppers.
-
Put cars inside a garage
if possible.
-
Remove outside TV antennas
if possible.
-
Fill your bathtub and any
other containers with water. If power is lost, water well pumps
may not work. You will need water to flush toilets, bathe and for
pets.
-
Get your insurance papers
and any other important papers together in a safe place. Any form
of ID should also be secured.
-
If you are in an area of
potential flooding, prepare your rooms.
-
Keep power consumption to
a minimum.
-
Check for loose tree limbs
and prune if necessary.
-
Do not call 911 for storm
information. The local law enforcement agencies and fire
departments will be busy making preparations for the storm and
continuing to do their duty.
