2005 Hurricane Season

NOAA
has released their year 2005 Hurricane Season predictions. A
another above average season is predicted this year. A
prediction of 12-15 tropical storms with 7-9 of those becoming
hurricanes, they also feel that 3-5 of them will become major.
Officials continue to advise residents in Atlantic and Gulf
Coast states to be prepared for storms, high winds and flooding
throughout the season, which begins June 1. Klein Fire Dept is
urging everyone in the area to become familiar with designated
Evacuation Routes and Hurricane Preparedness Plans
Hurricane Preparedness Plans.
A weather radio is an excellent
way to stay in tune with any weather watches or warnings that
may be issued during a storm. They use both AC and DC power
allowing you to keep up with weather events even when power is
out. These can be purchased at many Department and Electronics
stores in the area.
Now is the time to
begin your preparations, don’t wait until the last minute.
Our area has not been impacted by
a major hurricane in many years resulting in a very complacent
attitude towards the potential threat of a hurricane. This
attitude, along with the growth of the area in the past 25 years
could result in catastrophic loss of life and property damage in
the event of a direct hit or near miss by a hurricane.
We still refer back to tropical
storm Allison as well as the more recent flooding that
has occurred in our area. We should remember that proper
preparation can and will help reduce the loss of life and
property. It does not take a hurricane to cause catastrophic
damage to life and property during hurricane season. Allison
demonstrated that a slow moving tropical storm or depression
could be just as dangerous to our area. More recent flooding
events continue to remind us of our vulnerability. Klein Fire
Department cannot stress enough the importance of education and
preparation. Visit our site often, as we will offer
Hurricane Preparedness classes very soon.
Tune to your favorite local news
station and keep up to date with the hurricane information and
events as they happen. We are lucky to have excellent pool of
meteorologists in our area as well as sources on the Internet.
Your actions now could make the difference in surviving a
hurricane or tropical storm in the future.
