ISO UPDATE - APRIL 2006:
The Insurance Services Office, Inc. has completed
their analysis of the structure fire suppression delivery system for
Harris County ESD 16 (Klein Volunteer Fire Department). ISO is the
leading supplier of statistical, underwriting, and actuarial
information for the property/casualty insurance industry in Texas.
They report that the resulting Public Protection
Classification is a CLASS 3, a two grade improvement from the former
classification of Class 5/9. This means that the community’s fire
suppression services are improving in the face of the demands of a
changing environment. Only 63 communities out of 2253 rated
communities in Texas are rated higher. ISO PPC
program evaluates communities according to a uniform set of criteria
defined in the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule. This criteria
incorporates nationally recognized standards developed by the
National Fire Protection Association and the American Water Works
Association.
TEXAS
Distribution of Communities by PPC Class
Number within Classification

The PPC program recognizes the efforts of communities to provide
fire-protection services for citizens and property owners. A
community's investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable
predicator of future fire losses. So insurance companies use PPC
information to help establish fair premiums for fire insurance —
generally offering lower premiums in communities with better
protection. By offering economic benefits for communities that
invest in their firefighting services, the program provides a real
incentive for improving and maintaining public fire protection. For
