Klein Vol. Fire Department acquires a 1951 American LaFrance Fire truck.

The department recently acquired a 1951 American LaFrance open cab fire truck. The truck was chosen for several reasons:

It has a classic look.
Kids and adults alike enjoy this type of truck.
Most important of all, it matches the year that Klein Volunteer Fire Department was established.

It has been placed at station 33 in the Memorial Chase subdivision.  The department has begun a restoration effort to get it in parade shape.  The truck is in very good condition as it is but a few repairs and tweaks are still needed.  The effort is being led by long time member and past Chief Bruce Lindstrom.

Bruce is currently working 1 weekend a month with volunteers from the department to remove parts and to clean the truck.  There are two major items they will be working on. One is a head gasket replacement along with a major tune up of the engine.  The other is a complete re-wire of the truck in order to get all electrical systems working.  Once finished, the truck will look close to its original configuration when it was in service with the Plainview Texas Fire Dept.

If you are in the area on Monday nights stop by and visit.  Station 33 enjoys showing off their equipment, both old and new.   The station is located at the intersection of Landry and Old Louetta in the Memorial Chase subdivision.
