A Brief History of
Klein Station 34
Klein Station 34 was
founded in 1978 by volunteers from the Kleinwood and Memorial
Northwest subdivisions. It was the fourth station built by KVFD.
The developer of the Kleinwood subdivision donated the land at
16607 Kleinwood Drive. The Station was built by all volunteer
labor and was in operation by the end of 1978 after it was
destroyed by a sever windstorm halfway through construction. The
station was rebuilt in 1988 to a more suitable configuration of
three bays. The Mormon Church, next door to the station donated
a small part of the land, when it was discovered that a three
bay station could not be accommodated on the existing land plot.
The brick on station 34 was matched to the brick on the church
to make the station more attractive. In 2003, after once again
outgrowing its accommodations, station 34 was rebuilt at its
present location at 16810 Squyres Rd.
The old station 34 became a storage depot for KVFD fleet
equipment and the new home for our antique fire pumper.
Station 34 draws members from Kleinwood, Memorial
Northwest, Wimbledon, Champions and Spring Creek Forest
subdivisions.
The station is home
for one Class A pumper, Engine 34, and Klein's heavy duty rescue
truck, R-34. Station 34 is located in the center of the most
densely populated part of the fire district and has a high call
volume every month.
